Debra Messing, Husband Daniel Zelman Split After Ten Years
File under News & Rumours posted on 21 December, 2011 by

It’s bound to be a bittersweet holiday season for Debra Messing. After a decade together, the Will and Grace star, 43, and husband Daniel Zelman have called it quits, they tell Us Weekly in an exclusive statement.

“Debra Messing and Daniel Zelman privately separated earlier this year after a 10 year marriage,” Messing’s rep tells Us. Messing and actor/TV producer Zelman, 44, met years ago as students at New York University, married in 2000, and share a 7-year-old son, Roman.

Explains the rep of the separation: “The decision was mutual, and they remain supportive of one another and committed to raising their son as a family.”

Messing (who next stars in buzzed-about NBC series Smash, out in February), Zelman and their little boy recently relocated to NYC — and remain living under one roof, according to a source close to the pair.

“They have been separated the better part of the year but continue to live together in New York for Roman,” explains the source. “It’s very amicable.”

(The couple was photographed out and about together as recently as Halloween weekend, when they dressed up in complementary ghoulish costumes at Bette Midler’s annual, star-packed Hulaween bash in NYC.)

Just last month, Messing told LilSugar about her holiday plans in the Big Apple. “We just moved back to New York but have always had family here,” the Emmy winner said. “We love to go skating at Wolman rink, and go see plays — musicals specifically. Waiting for the snow to come. Looking forward to putting on the snowsuit and stomping through Central Park.”

It’s Official – SMASH to Premiere Monday, February 6, 2012 on NBC!
File under News & Rumours, Smash posted on 19 November, 2011 by

It’s official, NBC’s new Broadway-filled series SMASH will premiere on February 6 at 10pm. The show, which is about a group of people who come together to put on a Broadway musical was developed by NBC’s Robert Greenblatt, Steven Spielberg, and Broadway producing team Craig Zadan and Neil Meron. Broadway’s Marc Shaiman and Scott Wittman wrote the music for the show. Michael Mayer directed the project, and playwright Theresa Rebeck penned the script.

There’s nothing more exciting than the opening night of a hit Broadway musical, except maybe what happens getting there. While Wicked and The Lion King pack audiences in on the Great White Way, Julia and Tom, a successful songwriting team played by Debra Messing and Christian Borle, begin work on a new musical based on the life of Marilyn Monroe. When a tenacious producer (Anjelica Houston) jumps aboard, so begins the difficult task of casting the silver screen icon.

Ivy Lynn, a tough Broadway veteran, seems like the obvious choice. But enter Karen Cartwright (Katharine McPhee), a young girl from Iowa with a dream of making it on Broadway who walks in and blows everyone away. So who will get the part and begin a journey that will change their lives? It’s an age-old story, but a star just might be born once again.

While everyone is consumed with putting the show together, real life has a tendency of getting in the way. Julia and her husband are in the middle of a complicated adoption; the producer’s husband begins divorce proceedings which could threaten the finances of the show; and the brilliant but womanizing director could derail everything if he puts the young star in a compromising position. This will be a rollercoaster ride that culminates on opening night when the audience gets to determine whether or not the show is a smash!

eBay kicked off the season of giving by launching two charitable, virtual pop-up stores in San Francisco and New York City on Friday, Nov. 11, benefiting Toys for Tots. Taking full advantage of eBay’s innovative mobile technologies, shoppers can use their smart phones to scan toys in the window displays for price tags and make corresponding donations.

When shoppers scan the QR codes for prices, which range from $2 to $25, the toys in the window come to life and cheer in gratitude. eBay will donate 100 percent of the proceeds from this campaign to Toys for Tots.

The Give-a-Toy store windows launched online at www.eBay.com/GiveAToyStore. Visitors can make donations, play virtual games and share their activities on Facebook and Twitter. Facebook users can also download a dedicated app to customize virtual toys. For each virtual toy a user customizes, eBay will contribute from $1 to $50,000 to Toys for Tots.

“This holiday season, we are leveraging our technology and platform to power The Give-A-Toy Store, which offers a differentiated experience for shoppers who wish to give using their mobile phone,” said Richelle Parham, Chief Marketing Officer, eBay North America. “Consumers are more inclined to give to charity during the holidays, and eBay is gearing up for what we believe will be our biggest mobile shopping season ever. We partnered with Toys for Tots to spread some holiday cheer and give people an innovative way to window shop for good.”

The new pop-up stores will be open to the public now through Dec. 31 at 117 Post Street in San Francisco and 35th Street and Broadway in New York City.

“It always feels good to give, but I think it is especially gratifying during the holiday season,” said actress Debra Messing, spokesperson for the campaign. “I’m really excited eBay and Toys for Tots asked me to help open The Give-A-Toy Store here in New York. It’s a fun and interactive way to spread some holiday cheer this year – you can donate toys to kids in need, right from a smartphone.”

Debra Messing’s Will & Grace co-star Sean Hayes have expressed his love for Debra and her comeback ‘Smash‘ in an interview with nymag.com

Which will be around the time we get to see Debra Messing in Smash — both of you back on the air again.
I love Smash. I e-mailed Debra, “This is the best thing I’ve ever seen you do” — and she’s done some amazing things. She’s so talented. And if one of my other shows happen, we’d both be back on the air full-time. That would be wild.
