You won’t be seeing any “Friends” or “Will & Grace” reunions anytime soon. Turns out everyone already has other plans.
The stars of the two former Must-See TV sitcoms have hardly lacked for work since the shows left the air (“Friends” ended in 2004, “Will & Grace” in 2006). But a confluence of pilot season, movie and TV premieres and, in the case of “W&G” star Sean Hayes, a Broadway opening, means that just about every one of them will be stepping in front of cameras or onto a stage in the next couple of months.
Eric McCormack (Will) stars in Lifetime’s movie “Who Is Clark Rockefeller?” on Saturday (March 13) and has been recurring on “The New Adventures of Old Christine” this season. His former TV roommate Debra Messing is headed back to network TV after “The Starter Wife,” starring in and executive producing an ABC comedy pilot called “Wright vs. Wrong.”
Hayes makes his Broadway debut opposite Kristin Chenoweth in a revival of “Promises, Promises” in April; also next month, Megan Mullally will join the cast of “Party Down” for its second season (we’ll agree to ignore her I Can’t Believe It’s Not Butter commercials if you will).
The “Friends” crew has been equally busy. Courteney Cox earned a Golden Globe nomination for ABC’s comedy “Cougar Town,” which was recently picked up for a second season. Lisa Kudrow, who guest-starred on “Cougar Town” in January, is executive producing NBC’s genealogy show “Who Do You Think You Are?” and will be its subject on March 19 — the same day that Jennifer Aniston’s latest movie, “The Bounty Hunter,” hits theaters.
As for the guys, Matt LeBlanc will play a version of himself in Showtime’s comedy “Episodes” later this year, and Matthew Perry is playing the lead role in ABC’s pilot “Mr. Sunshine.” David Schwimmer doesn’t have any acting roles lined up at the moment — he was in talks for ABC’s drama “Edgar Floats,” but the role eventually went to Tom Cavanagh — but he is directing a feature film called “Trust” that stars Clive Owen and Catherine Keener and will presumably do voice work on the third “Madagascar” movie.
So, sorry to those of you who are holding out hope for the “Friends” and “Will & Grace” reunions that will probably never happen. You’ll just have to cut together a bunch of scenes from your DVR.
