The Starter Wife is starting over. Again.
Starting Oct. 10, USA is converting its lady-beloved miniseries into a full-fledged (well, 10-episode) series. Debra Messing is back as Molly, the Hollywood trophy wife who lost her husband but found true love at the end of the movie. But when the series kicks off, love will have proved fleeting, and Molly will be back where she started.
“The miniseries was kind of summer,” Messing says, “and now school begins.” That means Molly has a new love interest in co-star Hart Bochner and a new relationship with her ex-husband, now played by David Alan Basche.
Despite the changes, Messing says, fans will still recognize the Wife they came to love. “It was very important to me that it still have the same tone, the sophistication, the wide range from naturalism to broad comedy and to bring back characters that were very beloved, like (Chris Diamantopoulos’) character and Judy Davis’ character … to really just continue the story so that the people who really loved the miniseries will feel like they’re just rejoining their old friends.”
